Silver Falls PaintOut – August 20-22

We just got back from a grand three days at Silver Falls. The organization and accommodations were great, the food plentiful, the weather fantastic, and the painting opportunities only limited by the time we had there. It was great getting to know our fellow artists better and to be able to paint for a full day without interruption (unless you discount gawking at the great scenery of Silver Falls). At the critique, we could see the results of the day’s work – there was some really fine paintings shared by the group. These retreats are really neat, folks!  The following is the painting I did of the Upper North Falls.  Terry Tallis

The other painting of the South Falls Lodge is an oil made by Mike.

Finley Wildlife Refuge – 8 July 2009

The day of the outing was also the day that the park headquarters was relocated to a new location.  We had painters at both the old and new location.  I painted near the new headquarters which turned out to be a very scenic spot.  The building I painted is an old smokehouse which according to the park superintendent is a historic building.  It was a nice day for painting.

Alsea Falls – 15 July 2009

Great weather today at Alsea Falls and a large turnout.  The first painting was made by Kris Mitchell  who said “Wow, What a perfect morning!  At Alsea Falls painting, warm weather and cool setting, with other wonderful artists.”  The second painting is mine.  I finished it after the outing with a generous helping of gouache and ink.

July 1, 2009 – Cauthorn House

Doyle sent me the following image of his watercolor painting of the fountain at Cauthorn House.  According to Terry Tallis, “painting water is like painting an elephant, just paint everything that doesn’t look like an elephant.”

Cardwell Hill Vineyard – June 2009

Kris Mitchell wrote:

“What a glorious morning!  A beautiful day to be out painting.  I chose a view of Marys Peak from the veranda at Cardwell Hill Vineyard, not necessarily for the view but more out of necessity.  I forgot my drawing board and there was a table on the Veranda so I set up there.  Love to be out painting again!”  (Her painting is on the bottom)

‘Was at Cardwell Hill Vineyard with the Vistas & Vineyard’s group painting on this incredible Oregon day. I have a few touch-ups but his was the 8″ x 20″ watercolor I did this morning. Beautiful weather, great group of painters and what a way to spend a morning!” (His is on the right)

Mine (Mike Bergen) is on the left.  I worked it further after I got home.  You might notice a bit of Camille Prezwadek’s influence.

Larwood Covered Bridge – June 10, 2009

LarwoodBridgePeople

Many “Bridge” people came out for this weeks paint-out.  Doyle was facilitating.  Only about half the people were in this picture.  My contribution was this ink drawing.  Some think that my perspective is off, the truth is that I have a vision problem.  Kris Mitchell made this great colored pencil painting.  Her vision is just fine.  However she said that “The color of the day was blue-green.  I had a wonderful day painting!  Not such a great painting but I had a wonderful day.”

Albany Old Town – June 3, 2009

AlbanyAlleyWatercolor This is my version of the back alley of 1st street.  It began as a graphite sketch, then an ink sketch and eventually it became a watercolor painting.  It is 7X10 inches.  Several others painted in the same alley.

The second Drawing is from Doyle.  I wish I could do that.
